I know you’ve been there before. Staring at your phone, trying to think of something, anything, to post on Instagram. After all, you know that consistency is key, and you HAVE to show up, right?
Can I be honest with you for a moment? Posting just to post won’t get you anywhere. In fact, all it does is waste your time. I know, a little harsh, but the truth nonetheless.
Sure, your audience loves to see those pretty pictures. However, if there’s no substance behind that lovely photo, how are they supposed to connect with you?
Don’t worry. I’m not going to leave you with that somber message. Because there is something you can do about it and I’m going to tell you.
When it comes to content ideas for any social media platform, remember this: Give Value, Share about Yourself, and TALK ABOUT YOUR SERVICES!!!
I can not stress this one enough! If you want to create an audience that is chomping at the bit to see your next post, you’re going to have to give them a reason. People love to learn! It’s one of the main reasons that people turn to social media in the first place. I’m willing to bet that more people open up their computers/phones to find answers to their questions rather than high-tailing it to the library.
So, how do you provide value to your audience as an interior designer? Think about the questions that you get asked frequently. Maybe you’ve been asked a million times about the best white paint color. Perhaps your audience wants to know about how to choose the best rug. Listen to your audience; they will tell you.
Still not sure about what your audience wants? Just ask them! You can do this either in a feed post or turn to Instagram stories and use the question or poll sticker to find out what your audience wants to hear more about.

Go back to your content pillars. If you’re wondering what the heck are content pillars, they are broad topics related to your brand. Don’t have content pillars set up? This is something that is covered in my course, Posting with Purpose. Click here for more information.
SHARE ABOUT YOURSELF
Ok, it’s time for a little more harsh truth, there are a TON of interior designers out there. That probably comes as no surprise to you, but it’s hard to stand out in a crowded market with so many out there. That is why establishing your personal brand will make all the difference in the world.
The term “personal brand” gets thrown around a lot in the online space. But, in a nutshell, all it means is that you are not only marketing what you can do, but you’re marketing yourself as well.
This is important because while there are so many interior designers out there, nobody does it like you. If you’re not sharing who you are, you’re just going to get lost in the crowd. Now, more than ever, people want to buy from people. They want to feel connected and feel that they have a sense of the person that they will be forking their hard-earned dollars over to. This is why you need to get personal with your audience.
You don’t have to share every detail about your life, but you have to come off as a human and not just an interior designer. By sharing how you got started, what inspires you, and little details about your life, your audience will have a chance to connect with you. A connected audience is an audience that converts to lead and then to clients.
I rarely see an interior designer come straight out and say, “Hey, I’m offering this service.” I know what you’re thinking, “well, if they go to my website, then they’ll know what I offer.” More harsh truth, most people will not go to your website. That is why you need to talk about it on Instagram.
Once people get an idea of the services you offer and get interested, they’ll probably head over to your website to get more information. But, you need to let them know.
I know many interior designers shy away from talking about their services because they say it feels to “pushy.” However, there are tons of ways you can talk about your services without sounding like that used car salesman (no offense to any used car salesman out there).
A couple of ways you can promote your service is to lead with value and then tack on a simple statement at the end about how your service can help with the struggle you just mentioned.
Talk about your clients and how you helped them. Use this formula: struggle + solution = transformation. Tell the story of how your service addressed the problem. Storytelling captions not only educate your audience, but they also allow your audience to connect emotionally.
I hope that you found this information helpful and start implementing it into your own Instagram strategy. The most significant way to stand out on Instagram is to BE YOU!!! Don’t try to do what everyone else is doing, that’s when you get lost in the crowd.
